Students have options for effective chapter discussions:

(1) Debate the usefulness and implementation of family-friendly policies in the workplace.  You may consider various factors, such as: maternity/paternity/parental leave (if equal opportunity, would both men and women participate?), carework for ailing family members, carework for aging family members, who counts as “family” (given the evolving constructs of family).  You may even consider pulling in examples of family/work policies from other cultures.

(2) Discuss the Hooters case (from the text) and whether it is truly an example of discrimination. What resource are men being denied? Consider that for the women who are hired to work there, their gender and sexuality are a job. Consider female-only gyms–are they discriminatory? Would male-only gyms be discriminatory?
