Guns Germs and steel

As Jared Diamond explains, much of his motivation to write Guns, Germs, and Steel emerged from a question posed to him by Yali, a New Guinean politician. Yali asked Diamond, Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? (Diamond 1997:14).
